Events, News, Updates, and Much Gratitude
You have nine days to prepare ...
... for the Somerville Fall Clothing and Coin Drive! Pack up your un-needed clothing, shoes and accessories and those coins you've been saving for a rainy day and join us at Somerville Community Growing Center, Union Square, Somerville on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m. - rain or shine. Your clothing and financial contributions support more than four hundred people in need each year. Through Second Chances, homeless and lower income community members receive the clothing they need, for free, so that they can take the first steps to a brighter future. We couldn't do this without your generous support.

We've moved!
In August, with the help of Gentle Giant Moving Company, Cambridge City Council members Leland Cheung and Tim Toomey, and many City of Cambridge staff members, we moved our clothing donation bin from the Cambridge Recycling Center to a more accessible location. The bin is at Danehy Park parking lot, near the dog park. Find us! Details and directions »

We are so grateful to our partners and friends who made this great new drop-off location possible! Please donate clothing, shoes and accessories at Danehy Park, or one of three other locations in Cambridge and Watertown, all year long.

We've been busy, and deeply grateful
This summer was a blur, with clothing drives, partnership building, speaking engagements, serving our clients, raising the funds to continue serving our clients, improving our operations, and so much more. We couldn't support the people who need our help most without our many generous partners in the community, and I want to highlight some of the ways our partners help us and our clients to succeed.
  • For six years, Triumvirate Environmental has hosted an ongoing clothing drive at their Somerville office. The company's commitment to protecting our environment shows -- the Triumvirate team has donated almost 5,000 pounds of clothing, transportation, volunteer time, and so much more. We are grateful for Triumvirate's commitment to Second Chances and our community as one of our first partners.
  • This summer, the clean, green and community-minded Somerville Cleaning Company featured Second Chances in the Community Spotlight section of their website. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our work with new audiences.
  • Delaney Linen Service, the City of Cambridge, and Whole Foods Market have graciously hosted our outdoor clothing donation bins at various locations in Watertown and Cambridge, and Gentle Giant Moving Company has generously moved our donation bins to these locations. We are deeply grateful for the contributions that these companies have made. They make it possible to have a positive impact on people's lives and in our community.
We love to tell people about the contributions of our amazing partners, generous donors, and enthusiastic volunteers, so look for more great ideas (maybe your own!) in future e-newsletters, and on our website, blog, Twitter, and Facebook. And, thank you, for all that you do to support people in need in our community.

Want to partner with us? Email me at info@secondchances.org with your ideas, or visit our website -- under Partnerships and Other Ways You Can Help -- for ideas and opportunities.

I hope to see you at our clothing and coin drive later this month!
